Protection against Tsunamis
Tsunamis are among the most powerful and devastating natural phenomena.
Currently science has full knowledge of the origin of the formation and propagation of tsunamis, however the predictability of each phenomenon remains unknown to us. Fortunately, in our time there is a network of sensors scattered under the oceans, which allow us to inform ourselves of the location and intensity of each event, in real time.
Depending on his information we can know the time we have left to shelter the populations in the areas concerned; this time can range from a few minutes to a few hours.
The areas most exposed to the phenomenon are all the coastal areas close to seismic faults and at low altitude.
Device design
To overcome this problem, it was necessary to invent a device capable of protecting the populations concerned, following a tsunami alert, with a simple, rapid and effective reaction.
In general, in very populated areas, when a Tsunami Alert sounds, it causes a movement of general panic, which is difficult to control and which can be deadly in itself.
Taking into account the complexity of managing such an event, Dryup has created a device that can blend in with the constructions of the urban environment. It is an installation that can be used as a multi-use space, and that when the need arises, would protect several thousand people, with impeccable reliability and the advantage of being usable several times. In general terms, the equipment consists of a hollow platform buried at ground level, with a set of telescopic columns that support a cover equipped with photovoltaic panels and a hydraulic unit.
During a Tsunami Alert, in an area equipped with our system, the neighbouring inhabitants know that they must go to our platforms, depending on the expected time until the arrival of the wave. Subsequently, the platform rises from the ground several meters high, up to 15 meters if necessary.
For more extreme cases, where the height of submersion is greater than the elevation height of the equipment, the platform detaches from the columns and will float above the posts.
The advantages of the device:
- Its geometry and its mechanism not vulnerable to sand, gravel, and floating debris.
- It can be used as a multi-use space.
- It can be used multiple times.
- It remains stable, even in the event of submersion greater than the elevation height of the equipment.
